I recently joined a role playing site called Spitfire Roleplaying Community. On said site one of the members is starting a Watchmen/Rorschach based RP. Im trying to get other people to play, so if youre interested please have a look. Heres the website [link] but in order to see most of the threads you have to register on the site, which is free. So, for interested parties who dont want to register Ive taken the liberty of posting the synopsis of the game. No one has actually posted anything yet, but thats because were waiting to get more people to join.tl;dr version: Rorschachs journal got published and now the world's in a bad way again. These problems may be too big for vigilantes with great left hooks to solve. But that doesn't mean they aren't going to try.
Heres the plot outline:
Rorschach never should have mailed that journal... once Seymour unwittingly published the final discoveries of Walter Kovacs in the headlines of the New Frontiersman newspaper, the whole world was sent back to square one, only worse. Hell on Earth is an appropriate description. Once Adrian Veidt's conspiracy was revealed to the adoring public, things got out of hand. First, Adrian's company was driven headfirst into the ground. Nobody would trade with him, and bought all of their shares back from him, no matter the cost. Everyone sold short their shares of Veidt International, Pyramid Deliveries, and the Institute for Extraspatial studies. Adrian was publicly disgraced, and every product he had put out on the market was banned from all major stores. Within a few short years, Adrian was completely broke. He had since gone into hiding after being blacklisted, leaving his company to die. Because his company was such a large corporate entity, its collapse caused massive fluctuations in the stock market. Investors and traders feared that another crash was imminent.
The American government tried their best to keep the public calm, but it wasn't long before the "One World, One Accord" movement was demolished. This held major repercussions, upsetting the balance of political power in both the USA and the USSR. Nixon was ousted from office, and come 1988, Ronald Regan was sitting in the White House. Russia had similar issues, but surprisingly, they were the first to offer a compromise. They were just as surprised and insulted as the US was- to think that the two most powerful nations on Earth could be fooled so easily by what was obviously a tremendous practical joke. The nations agreed that, given the circumstances, they would continue to stand down, on the condition that all nuclear weapons in both nations were to be disarmed, and all communications between the continents severed. They both had enormous problems to deal with, and the last thing they needed was another enemy. And so, the great nations shunned each other, both focusing on their own, more domestic issues.
Once the truth came out, All of the USA's old problems began to resurface, only more terrifying. Street punks got higher than ever on new designer drugs, boosting gang affiliation, prostitution and homelessness. Cops became easier and easier to bribe, affected by both monetary problems and a skyrocketing crime rate. Thanks to the financial and political changes, destitution became commonplace. The entire USA was in yet another great depression, forcing decent people to become criminals in order to survive. The bare necessities, such as food and shelter, became precious commodities. Gangs might as well be the new authority in New York City- Knot Tops have made a huge comeback, and many new groups have emerged, fighting for their slice of the pie. With Doctor Manhattan in another universe, Nite Owl and Silk Spectre under assumed identities, the Comedian and Rorschach dead, and Ozymandias in hiding, there are no superheroes left to aid the beleaguered law enforcement against the constant riots- and constant they are, protesting violently against everything from political leadership to Adrian Veidt himself. Like I said... Hell on Earth.
However, there remains one ray of hope. There is one gang that differs from the rest- they are intelligent, organized, and they refuse to take drugs. They have made it their mission to destroy the other gangs, protecting the innocent. They despise high-class, 'Soft' people, political figures and Veidt in particular. They are urban iterations of Robin Hood and his Merry Men, robbing from the rich and giving to the poor. (Occasionally, to themselves as well.) They are no ordinary gang... they are Fearful Symmetry, named so for their dress code- they were able to secure a large amount of Dr. Manhattan's morphing black-and-white material, creating their own 'faces,' not unlike a certain antihero of questionable stability...
Fearful Symmetry is a group of people who identified with Rorschach's choice to expose Veidt- they were able to read of his adventures in the New Frontiersman, thus becoming inspired to follow in his footsteps, rise above nation-wide poverty and make something of themselves. They have contacts all over the city, helping them keep track of other authority figures on the street and expand their homegrown operation. They are based mostly in Rorschach's old apartment complex, and enjoy eating out in the Gunga Diner every so often. They are pretty small-time at the moment, not to mention still illegal because of the Keene Act, but that didn't even stop the old Rorschach- why should the new ones be deterred? After studying his methods for a long time, the members of Fearful Symmetry were able to adopt Rorschach's intimidating torture techniques, inventive and tenacious fighting style, aptitude for improvised weaponry, talent for mental combat, and most importantly, his ideals. Most of them rigidly follow Rorschach's example, never compromising and carrying out their tasks with a sense of moral absolutism. However, there are those who have their doubts....
